This series comprises records related to the training of women to become consecrated deaconess for the Deaconess Community of the Lutheran Church in America (LCA). The records were created as a result of planning, implementation, and subsequent revision of the deaconess education program. Records date from 1965-1980, but the bulk date from 1965-1978. Types of records include business correspondence, circular letters, meeting minutes, promotional brochures, application forms, orders of service, program proposals, student lists, grade reports, course outlines, agreements, and evaluations. Records represented include general education program information as well as records specific to three locations with cooperative deaconess education programs: The Lutheran School of Theology at Philadelphia (LTSP), Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LTSC), and Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pennsylvania. Of note, this series includes either consecration or investiture orders of service for deaconess who were trained 1966-1978. This series provides background information on how training of deaconesses evolved from 1965-1978.
